How much does a yoga retreat cost?

That’s often the first question, and the most difficult to answer clearly: how much should you plan for a yoga retreat? The honest answer is “it depends”, but there are useful guidelines. Rather than announcing a magic number, let’s look at what really affects the price and how to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Very wide ranges

The cost of a retreat depends first on the destination, duration and level of comfort. For information purposes, and without ever replacing the actual price displayed by each venue:

  • A weekend or short stay in France or nearby Europe is often within an accessible price range, a few hundred euros all inclusive.
  • A full week in Europe naturally costs more, with prices depending on the comfort of the accommodation and the teachers’ reputation.
  • A distant retreat (India, Sri Lanka, Bali) may seem more affordable on site, but you need to add the plane ticket, which quickly becomes a significant part of the total budget.

These rough estimates are only for guidance. On Retreatorium, when a venue publishes an indicative price range, we display it as is; when it does not publish one, we leave it blank rather than inventing it.

What affects the price

Several factors explain the sometimes significant differences between two stays that resemble each other:

  • Accommodation: a single room is more expensive than a shared dormitory bed. This is often the first factor affecting the price.
  • The duration and number of sessions: the more days and teaching hours, the higher the price, but the cost per day sometimes decreases for longer stays.
  • The level of comfort: simple eco-lodge or high-end estate, the difference adds up quickly.
  • The season: high tourist season comes at a price, while the late season often offers better rates.

The essentials: what is included

It’s the most important point, and the easiest to neglect. Two prices are only comparable if you look precisely at what they cover.

A few simple questions before booking: are meals included, and how many per day? Is accommodation part of the price or is it billed separately? How many hours of yoga are planned daily? Are treatments, excursions or workshops included or extra?

A very low introductory price sometimes hides meals that are your responsibility or optional activities that are charged once you are on site. On the other hand, a more expensive "all-inclusive" package may ultimately be cheaper, and above all, it can save you from having to take out your wallet during your entire stay, which is also a form of rest.

How to find a retreat to fit your budget

The most effective approach remains to compare what is truly comparable. Browse our selection of venues and look, for each one, at the setting, duration, and what the venue page indicates about the tariff. When a doubt persists, a brief message to the venue clears up most uncertainties: organisers are used to detailing what their price includes.
